Eve Belle announces new single 'Bluff'

“This is a collection of songs that have built up over the last few years and really paint a portrait of different experiences I went through over that timeframe. Learning and growing over the last few years, I’ve found myself wishing my time away occasionally, always waiting for the next dramatic thing, waiting for the next landmark of my life. But I’ve learned to take solace in the in-between moments, where I rely on myself, and I feel that these songs represent that transition.” - Eve Belle, October 2020.

Eve Belle is a young singer, songwriter and chronicler of sorrows from deepest Donegal. A recent TCD languages graduate, her songs and stories are suffused with a singular Weltschmerz seldom found in writers of such tender years.

In Eve Belle’s songs, the brass tacks prick skin and draw blood. Her observations are pin-sharp, she says:

“My main focus as a writer is honesty across the whole emotional spectrum, this can take me from unabashed melancholia to tongue-in-cheek musings on the mores of modern love.”

In 2016, One of Eve Belle’s early songs, the aptly-titled, achingly beautiful ‘Too Young To Feel This Old’ came to the attention of Irish independent label Rubyworks. Around the same time, her evocative cover of Coldplay’s ‘Violet Hill’ found favour with Chris Martin & Co., and was widely shared online.

Eve’s Rubyworks debut, the 2018 ‘Things I Once Believed’ 5-track EP, was produced in London with Fred Cox, best known for his work with Rag’n’Bone Man, Grace Carter and Dodie. Eve opened for label-mates Hozier and Wyvern Lingo, as well as Mabel, as part of the promo-cycle for the EP. A reworked ‘First Impressions’ from the EP gave her a first taste of daytime airplay support and across-the-board, high-profile streaming visibility.

Eve Belle has released a string of great singles - Cut-Throat, Smithereens, Out Of Town, Begging For Rain and her latest bittersweet bop Bluff; a song Eve says is about “the emotional agony spent bluffing that you don’t really care - to the object of your desire and to yourself - when you’re really not fooling anyone.”

Her adventures in the studios of Ireland and UK have brought her together with internationally acclaimed collaborators like Simon Aldred, Iain Archer, Nick Atkinson and rising Irish talents Christy Leech, SENU and Fiachra Kinder.

Last word to Eve: “From songs about heartache and longing, to songs about fighting for my place in the world, then songs about using my voice with integrity and not shying away from the difficult things in life, this album covers a range of lessons that I’ve learned as a young person. The solace that I found between the moments that inspired these songs is what offered me the clarity to write them, and to learn from them.”
