Jamie Duffy releases stripped back EP 'Late Night Sessions'
Folk / Dark-Academia Irish composer, Jamie Duffy releases intimate “Late Night Sessions”, a collection of reimagined tracks off his acclaimed debut EP “On A Wing”.
Reflective of Jamie’s relationship with composing, these versions of “Resonance”, “Torus” and “Breathing” are being released in their purest form, recorded late at night, by himself, on Jamie’s very own felted piano.
“The irony of it all is that even though these recordings reflect how I originally composed these pieces, this EP was actually recorded in the middle of the chaotic Autumn Tour I was on. It was actually when I got settled in St. John’s Priory in Kilkenny one October evening before a show, when I had a few moments of peace that I decided to capture these gentle versions. Just me and my piano from home that I’d been hauling around the whole of Ireland.”
Set to enchant listeners, this ethereal EP showcases Jamie's unique ability to blend traditional, popular, and classical influences into a distinctive and captivating musical style, communicated entirely through one instrument. The 3 songs within it draw on his relationships, from love to the natural world, to the music industry. The originals were produced by BAFTA winner and Emmy nominated Icelandic composer Atli Örvarsson, whereas these versions are completely self-produced by Jamie himself.
The softest of the tracks, “Breathing”, is reflective of Jamie’s relationship with music, and a nod to his method of composing. Being the lead single off this EP, Jamie described it as ”In its purest form, the song gently exudes the airy and expansive, yet intimate space in which it was recorded in - a church, in a small town in the middle of Ireland.”
‘Late Night Sessions’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
